The former president and CEO of Videotron and Verizon, Manon Brouillette, has agreed to take the reins of the board of directors of Hydro-Québec. The name of the new CEO will be known by the end of the month.

According to our information, the current president of the Board, Jacynthe Côté, recently approached Ms. Brouillette on behalf of the government to propose that she succeed Sophie Brochu as CEO of the state-owned company, which she refused.
However, she accepted the role of Board Chair. The Council of Ministers signed the decree formalizing his appointment in the followingnoon of Wednesday.

“I am proud to announce the appointment of Ms. Manon Brouillette as the new chair of the Board of Hydro-Québec. She is a woman with an exceptional background who will be able to meet Quebec’s energy challenges!” declared Premier François Legault.
Last December, Jacynthe Côté announced that she would not be renewing her term as head of the state-owned company’s board of directors. She will begin a new mandate at the Royal Bank of Canada. Ms. Côté was the first woman to chair the board of directors.
Leading Verizon
Manon Brouillette will replace her as of June 2, following a long career in telecoms, including 14 years at Videotron. This is a 5 year term.
“Ms. Brouillette has great managerial expertise, she has distinguished herself here at Videotron and internationally with Verizon. I am very happy that she has accepted this new challenge,” added the Minister of Energy, Pierre Fitzgibbon.
In June 2021, Ms. Brouillette was appointed chief operating officer of Verizon, in New York. Six months later, she was appointed head of this American telecommunications giant.
Her mission was to develop 5G experiences in addition to completing Verizon’s transformation into a technology company.
However, less than a year following this promotion, she resigned, while the action of Verizon Communication collapsed on the stock market.
New CEO soon known
Quebec must now fill the position of CEO. Pierre Despars has served as interim CEO of Hydro‐Québec since the departure of Sophie Brochu last April.
The name of his permanent successor will be known by the end of May.
