Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has surrendered. Trump, who surrendered in a Georgia jail, was arrested and released on bail. The arrest is against illegal activity and rigging in the 2020 general elections. Trump’s indictment comes after a two-year investigation into his attempt to defeat Joe Biden.

41 charges were filed against Trump and 18 other defendants. Charges such as defrauding the country and conspiracy to disrupt industrial processes have been charged against Trump. Trump has cases in various jurisdictions. This could be a blow to Trump’s ambitions to contest the next general election. Trump is currently on trial in New York and South Florida. It is the first time that a former US president has been accused of consecutive criminal charges.

Trump, who has been impeached twice, is also charged with six counts of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and conspiracy to commit forgery, impersonation, and submission of false statements and documents. Several people have been named as defendants in the case, including Trump’s former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Trump’s White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows.
