Great concern for former UFC champion Mark Coleman (59): The former cage fighter and Olympic wrestler (placed 7th at the 1992 Barcelona Games) is in mortal danger following saving his parents from their burning home in Ohio. His daughter announced this in an Instagram post.
As Morgan Coleman reports in her post, her father went into the burning house several times on Tuesday night (local time) and tried to save not only his parents, but also the family dog, Hammer. But he didn’t succeed.
Coleman continued: “He was taken by air ambulance to hospital where he is now fighting for his life following his heroic act. Our father has always been our hero and means the world to us. He is the strongest and bravest man I know.”

Coleman’s mother Connie, who escaped the flames thanks to his help, also took to social media and wrote: “Thank God we are alive.”
As pictures from the scene of the accident show, parts of the house are completely destroyed. Charred beams and fallen parts of the roof lie around. Other parts of the building appear intact.

The fire drama
The fire broke out in the middle of the night: According to his daughter, Coleman was woken up at around 4 a.m. by the dog Hammer, who was the first to notice the fire. Coleman had been staying at his childhood home because he was visiting his parents there.
Because he ran into the house several times, Coleman apparently suffered severe smoke inhalation.
His daughter Morgan: “Now they have to clear his lungs.” She set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to make up for her loss of income while caring for her father.
Mark Coleman was the UFC’s first heavyweight champion (1997). He won 16 of 26 fights. In 2008 he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
