Streamers around the world have started to take interest in Kick, a new platform that is supposed to compete with Twitch. Videographer xQc has already taken the plunge, except that not everything goes as planned.

Do you know Kick? This is a brand new streaming platform that is supposed to compete with Twitch. Unlike the latter, it wants to be much more generous regarding the remuneration of videographers and also much more free. The creator xQc, with twelve million subscribers, is one of those many people who have taken the plunge to test this new service. He even signed a contract with it. But he’s already got himself in trouble. While Kick advocates almost total freedom of expression and dissemination, xQc was caught for copyright infringement. During a stream, and while he thought he was protected from the DMCAs, he had the idea of broadcasting the film Batman The Dark Knight to his community.

Only, following long minutes without any problem, he received a message from the platform: Hello, we inform you that you are streaming copyrighted content.

We ask you to stop your live. You will also need to remove the VOD from your channel .

The videographer immediately cut his stream but, since a good part of the film had already been broadcast, he managed to make some money. Streaming expert Devin Nash estimated that xQc’s earnings, thanks to Kick’s system, amount to almost $10,000 (regarding €9,000) per hour.

What did Kick promise?

While Twitch continues to tighten its regulations vis-à-vis compensation and business partners, Kick uses the opposite strategy. In terms of compensation, this new platform is intended to be generous. A simple example: 1 sub is 4 euros on Twitch. Of these 4 euros, the streamer will receive half.On Kick, a sub is 5 euros and the videographer recovers 95%. On top of that, the company has already announced that it wants to pay all streamers up to $16 per hour. In terms of content, the service wants to be able to show everything and advocates freedom of expression and the freedom to stream sensitive or DMCA content. Because of this, Kick has already earned a reputation for bringing together all the problematic people on Twitch.
