In January 2023, the German ski icon Rosi Mittermaier died following a serious illness at the age of 72. Now her son and former skier Felix Neureuther has spoken regarding his mother’s death on the WDR talk show “Kölner Treff”.
The 39-year-old spoke of a “brutally hard” year; he was able to prepare for his mother’s death, “but not for what happened followingwards.” This refers to the media hype and the constant expressions of condolence: “If you constantly “When you’re faced with that, it’s not easy.”
“There was no better mother”
Neureuther now feels grateful to have had such a person at the heart of the family. “For me there was no better mom,” said Neureuther, who is now doing better: “But of course mom is missing at the back and front.”
Rosi Mittermaier won Olympic gold in the downhill and slalom as well as silver in the giant slalom in Innsbruck in 1976 and was nicknamed “Gold Rosi”. Son Felix fought exciting duels with Austria’s living ski legend Marcel Hirscher in the technical competitions for years and achieved 13 World Cup victories in his career.
