Former Prio CEO Kristian Berg Harpviken would be the new Nobel director

Njølstad has been the Nobel Institute’s director for ten years, since 2015. Now he may have a successor with intensive expertise in peace work and analysis.

– I’ve labored for peace all my life, so for me that is my dream job, says Harpviken in a press launch from the Nobel Institute.

Harpviken is especially identified for its experience in Afghanistan. The 62-year-old has, amongst different issues, led the Norwegian Afghanistan Committee’s nation workplace. Since 1993, he has been related to the Institute for Peace Analysis (Prio), the place he was director from 2009 to 2017.

The Nobel Institute is the secretariat for the Nobel Committee, which has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize since 1901. The director of the institute can be the secretary of the Nobel Committee and attends all of the conferences there – a job Harpviken regards as notably vital:

– The Nobel Peace Prize is the world’s most vital award, and in a world with growing ranges of battle, the award is extra vital than ever, he says within the press launch.

The Nobel Committee’s chairman, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, could be very comfortable in regards to the new director.

– That the Nobel Institute will get a brand new director of such a format, with appreciable expertise {and professional} competence, we’re very glad, he says.
