Given the appointment of former paramilitary commander Salvatore Mancuso as ‘peace manager’ by President Gustavo Petro, Former President Álvaro Uribe referred to the issue once more and asked for a similar deal with members of the Army that they remain imprisoned.

The former president asked that those in uniform recover their freedom who have served five years in prison for criminal conduct related to the armed conflict.

“I repeat what we have proposed so many times: the members of the Armed Forces who had or will have convictions for crimes prior to December 2016, with 5 years in prison should regain their freedom”held.

The head of the Democratic Center assured that there is an imbalance in the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, JEP, before the political eligibility that was allowed in the peace agreement to ex-members of the Farc responsible for serious crimes.

In that sense, insisted that not only Mancusowho has testified once morest him on several occasions before the courts, should have that status.

This Sunday, July 23, in his first pronouncement on the Mancuso issue, he suggested a name to add to the peace managers of the current Government: the former head of the Northern block of the Self-Defense Forces, Rodrigo Tovar Pupo, ‘Jorge 40’, sentenced to 19 years in prison.
