Former President of the Assembly, Louis Mermaz, has died – LCP

The former President of the National Assembly, Louis Mermaz, has passed away this Thursday, August 15 in his department of Isère, at the age of 92.

A major figure in the “Mitterrandie” movement, elected MP in 1967 in Isère, then mayor of Vienne between 1971 and 2001. Appointed minister during the election of Socialist President François Mitterrand, Louis Mermaz became President of the National Assembly on July 2, 1981. until 1986. The Isérois returned to the government after the first cohabitation, notably in the Ministry of Agriculture, being government spokesperson and minister responsible for relations with Parliament between 1992 and 1993.
