Trump assassination attempt: former president confirms bullet hit his right ear

Former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) confirmed this Saturday in a first message on his Truth Social network, following being shot at a rally, that a bullet hit him in the right ear and said that it is “unbelievable” that something like this might have happened in the country.

“I was shot with a bullet that went through the top of my right ear. I knew immediately something was wrong because I heard a whizzing sound, gunshots and immediately felt the bullet go through my skin. I was bleeding a lot and I realized what was happening,” the Republican candidate said.

Trump said that “nothing is known” at this time regarding the identity or motive of the attacker. “It is incredible that such an act might happen in our country,” he added.

The 78-year-old New York tycoon thanked the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies for their “quick response” at the rally, which took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.

He also expressed his “deepest condolences” to the family of the member of the public who died in the shooting and another who was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.

After the shots were heard, Trump was quickly evacuated from the scene with blood on his right ear and part of his face. Shortly followingward, his campaign reported that the Republican was “doing well.”

The Butler County District Attorney’s Office announced that the attacker, whose identity remains unknown, is dead.

In a statement posted on social media, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said it is on-site in Butler, Pennsylvania, and will “continue to work with the United States Secret Service as the investigation progresses.”

He did not confirm, therefore, whether it is an investigation into attempted murder. President Joe Biden also refused to do so, saying in a press conference that he did not yet have any information on the matter.
