Ex-ZiB presenter crashed with Harley
The longtime ORF presenter Klaus Edlinger fell badly on a motorcycle trip with his Harley-Davidson. The 78-year-old suffered numerous broken bones.
For more than 30 years Klaus Edlinger was one of the figureheads of the ORF, he moderated the “Zeit im Bild” 1 and 2 as well as “Steiermark today”. Privately, motorcycling has always been a great passion of the 78-year-old. A hobby with consequences.
“Probably microsleep”
As early as the 1980s, Edlinger had a serious fall at a deer crossing, and now he has been involved in another accident. According to “Kleiner Zeitung”, Edlinger was on his way to Venice on Friday with his Harley-Davidson to take the ferry to Greece. But it didn’t come to that: “An accident that wasn’t caused by someone else. It was very cold, but the police think it was probably a microsleep,” Edlinger is quoted as saying. He himself might not remember the exact course of events.

Open fracture on the hand
When he regained consciousness, a man stood over him and tried to calm him down with the words “calma, calma” (calm). The Styrian had suffered serious injuries: an open fracture on his left hand and numerous broken ribs.
Edlinger was taken to a hospital in Trieste. He was to be transferred to the Wagna state hospital in Austria on Monday.
The former ORF star was lucky: no internal organs were damaged. So the helmet that he bought just before the trip paid off.
