The ex-OMV board member who surprisingly left in December Johann Pleininger has been appointed as the new CEO of Bahrain’s state-owned oil company Tatweer Petroleum. This is reported by the Bahraini state news agency BNA and the “Börsianer”. The “Kurier” had written regarding the planned change a month ago. Former OMV CEO Rainer Seele also sits on the Tatweer Supervisory Board.

Accordingly, Pleininger took over the chairmanship of Tatweer on May 1 and lives with his family in Bahrain. Tatweer has not yet confirmed the change. Pleininger’s name has not yet appeared on the company’s website either.

Pleininger was vice chairman of the board at OMV and head of the oil and gas business. At the end of the previous year, he resigned from the Executive Board earlier than expected “by mutual agreement”. His contract would have run until August 31, 2023. Pleininger, who started as an apprentice, worked at OMV for 45 years.
