Former San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche and Seattle Kraken forward Joonas Donskoi announced his retirement on Sunday.

The 31-year-old Finn is hanging up his skates after seeing his health jeopardized by multiple concussions over the years.

Donskoi confirmed his decision by posting a message of thanks on his Instagram page.

He joined the Kraken as an expansion draft pick in July 2021.

In 2021-22, he was limited to two goals and 20 assists in 75 games with Seattle. He suffered a head injury during the Kraken preseason schedule in the fall of 2022.

That followed a 31-point (17-14) tally in 51 games for the Avalanche during the shortened 2020-21 schedule.

A fourth-round pick of the Florida Panthers (99th overall) in 2010, Donskoi came to North America in the 2015-2016 campaign after many seasons in SM-Liiga.

His last NHL contract, signed in the summer of 2019, was for four years and earned him an annual sum of $3.9 million.
