Vincent Van Quickenborne, who recently resigned as Minister of Justice following the terrorist attack last Monday, spoke in a program broadcast on VTM, De Tafel van Gert. In this interview, the former minister recounts a series of events experienced during his time at a boarding school in Ghent. He explains that he was touched by a priest there.
According to him, it was common there to be touched by a particular priest. “If you were sick, the priest would come to your room and you would have to take down your pants.”says Vincent Van Quickenborne, who affirms that many young boys were victims. “At the boarding school in Ghent, we talked regarding it and everyone knew. The boys asked each other if they had experienced the same thing. If he had also been in their room. But in general , that was all, it was tolerated. We didn’t talk to our parents regarding it either.”he said, admitting that it was the first time he had confided in this subject.
The priest, author of these abuses, appeared in the list of names of priests accused of sexual violence in our country. He is now deceased, according to Vincent Van Quickenborne.
