The Former Minister of the Interior Izkia Siches recommended to the Medical Association, a union that she led between 2017 and 2021, that it not be “obsequious” and that it should “tighten” the Government of Gabriel Boric, which she was a member of for six monthsin matters related to health, today marked by the crisis of seasonal respiratory diseases.
According to ThirdSafe intervened last Friday in the framework of a relaxed conversation in a WhatsApp groupwhich integrates regarding twenty members -among them the recently resigned undersecretary Fernando Araos-, in which they discussed the position that Colmed should have before the Government.
The origin was the recent statements by the regional president of Valparaíso, Ignacio de la Torre, who said last week in Cooperativa that, among other things, in the health network “there is a lack of leadership with feet on the ground, on the ground.” This bothered them because they interpreted that the professional was speaking on behalf of the entire Colmed, despite the fact that not everyone thought alike, and that they noticed something of “opportunism” in him.
Given this, Siches spoke, from his vacation: “From the outside I see that it is obvious to hit, and necessary. I told Fran. Ask for things for Health and press. The obsequious Colmed looks very bad”. In accordance with ThirdIn the group there are three members named Francisca, including Francisca Crispi, president of Colmed in the Metropolitan Region and close to the former minister.
Immediately replied his former chief of staff, Roberto Estay, who, following leaving the Interior, went through the Ministry of Social Development and then served -until today- as advisor to the Undersecretary of Assistance Networks: “The data we have is the highest historical demand and mortality at the lowest levels compared to the pre-pandemic levels. It remains to communicate that better, among other things.”
Another doctor also replied, pointing out that, although it is okay to “ask for things”, the union has the responsibility of transmitting calm and real data, and “not going out to hit for the sake of hitting.”
Siches, however, became unresponsive in the group.
Four days later, the current national president of the Medical College, Patricio Meza, addressed T13 Radio the criticisms that have arisen from the union’s silent attitude towards the government’s management of the health crisis caused by respiratory viruses: “Today we are channeling it in a different way because we have all learned (…) today Colmed does not want prominence through the press”he explained.
Siches served as Minister of the Interior and Public Security of the Government of Boric between March 11 and September 6, 2022, being the first woman who came to hold that position in the history of Chile.
He had a turbulent management, marked by the public security situation and during which he was the protagonist of several controversies, such as a failed visit to Temucuicui, the false complaint in Congress regarding an expulsion flight or when he spoke of “Wallmapu” causing discomfort in Argentina. In July of that year he faced a constitutional accusation, which was unsuccessful.
