  • Controlled type I diabetes mellitus
  • Mixed dyslipidemia

These ailments make it difficult for the 63-year-old former mayor to get around and carry out basic activities (he cannot undress, bathe, go to the bathroom, get dressed, move around or walk).

According to the examination carried out in a cell in the south wing, he requires permanent assistance from a qualified person. The document adds that “he presents a severe decrease in muscle strength and sensitivity in the lower limbs and left upper limb, areflexia, muscle atrophy, hypotonia in the lower limbs, pain referred to the passive arcs of mobility of the lower limbs, there is no grasping or grip in left hand, with severe dependence to carry out basic activities of daily living according to the Barthel scale of 35 points.

The Ombudsman requested house arrest

The entity’s request was raised following a verification visit requested by the defense of the convicted former president.

According to the report of the visit made in November, Suárez Corzo had not received medical attention from the EPS until that moment and he did not have a caregiver nor was he receiving nursing care.

It should be remembered that in 2023, the convicted former mayor was transferred to Cúcuta to finish paying his sentence, but in July of that year a judge revoked the house-to-jail measure, arguing that Suárez had repeatedly failed to comply with his obligations as a beneficiary. of the House for jail, without any justification being found.

Once the measure was revoked, Suárez Corzo remained confined in the Erasmo Meoz hospital in Cúcuta for more than two months.
