The thread of life was cut today for the former player of MasterChef, Dionysis Proio, at the age of 58.
The tragic news was announced by his good friend, Dominiki Kefalopoulou. “A beloved friend of mine just passed away… Have a good trip, Dionysius, those with your Michalis. We will never forget you,” the post about his death said.
The 58-year-old who had stood out through his participation in MasterChef 4, had spoken about the loss of his son, who had been killed in a traffic accident with his motorbike.

Who was Dionysus Proios?
Dionysis Proios had won the love of his teammates, the judges and the viewers watching Masterchef 4. He had a dynamic character, a special style and an incredible sense of humor. He was 58 years old and had been born in Argentina.
“My mother was from Kefalonia and my father from Chiotis, I was born in Buenos Aires. The situation was not good in Greece after the war, there was a boom in Argentina and my family decided to stay there. My grandfather was a captain, one of the first of Aristotle Onassis, my father was a ship engineer” he said in an interview.
Dionysis Proios: “My family is broken up”
After the end of MasterChef, Dionysis Proios had spoken openly about his family and the great loss of his son: “My family has broken up, I feel alone, I feel that something is always missing. My son had started as an assistant chef and then took over on his own. On the day my son was killed, he greeted everyone and told them to “take care of my father”.
“He kissed me 2-3 times, he told me “you are the best there is, father, remember this”. The last image I had of Michalis was as if he was… greeting us”, declared Dionysis Proios.
Dionysis Proios: The love for art and entertainment
The general public may have known Dionysis Proios through his participation in MasterChef, but he himself was a busy man, having a lot of experience in the night life of Athens, while he stated that through his art and projects, he would find his own way .
“There was always a Dionysus entertaining the Athenians, that’s why I always opened shops, that’s why I make art, everything is for others. I am a rhesus negative, I only give blood. Art has saved me from becoming a barbarian.
We have what I call a “monkey” within us that needs to be tamed and this is done through art. He has especially saved me because I am a very lonely person in my life, I have always traveled”, declared Dionysis Proios.
Dionysis Proios: The friendship with Lakis Gavalas
In an interview in 2020, Lakis Gavalas, had referred to Dionysis Proios who had been his close friend, emphasizing how much the loss of his son had shaken him.
“After 19 years of this child growing up with this wonderful father and not his mom, Dionysis left for a trip to Argentina. As soon as he arrives in Argentina, they tell him “go back and bury your child”.
His child was killed opposite my house in Ftelia! At the bend there, the motorcycle leaves and falls into the ravine and is killed there. You understand for me what this thing was. A rascal is coming from Argentina to bury his child”, said Lakis Gavalas about Dionysis Proios.
