Former Indian players criticized the umpires’ decision after Pakistan’s defeat

For Pakistan ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 A win against South Africa on October 27 was crucial for me to progress, for which the players put in a lot of effort but an umpire’s decision reversed the match against Pakistan.

In Haris Rauf’s last over in the match, the ball hit the pads of South African player Tabriz Shamsi and it seemed that the prayers of the Pakistani fans had come true, there was a passionate appeal, but the umpire signaled not out.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam immediately took the review challenging the umpire’s decision.

In the review also the TV umpire upheld the decision of the field umpire as the ball fell outside the wicket line. In the ball tracking, although the ball was hitting the leg-stump, it appeared to hit the outside edge of the leg-stump, hence giving the ground umpire the benefit of the doubt and upholding his decision of not out.

The match was over and with their defeat, the Pakistani team was almost out of this mega event, but many questions are being raised on this review and not only the angry Pakistani fans but also the Indian players are talking about it.

Former Indian off-spinner Prabhajan Singh in his post on X blamed ‘bad umpiring’ and ‘bad rules’ for the Pakistan team’s defeat and said it cost Pakistan the match.

Tagging the ICC, he wrote that ‘this rule should be changed. If the ball is hitting the stumps, he will be out. Whether the umpire calls out or not out, it does not matter, otherwise what is the use of technology?’

After this post, many users criticized and questioned Harbhajan Singh, but he stood by his stand.

Former South African cricketer and captain Graeme Smith also responded to Harbhajan’s post and pointed to South African Rassie van der Dusen’s dismissal and said, “I also agree with you on the ‘umpire’s call’ but South Africa and Rasi can feel the same?

To which Harbhajan replied that it is not correct. ‘Either you use technology or stick to the umpire’s decision. In the same game, the ball hit the stumps and was given out twice and not out once. What are you showing the whole world? Who is making mistakes, the umpire or the technology? Why are the two put together? Need to decide who is right. Umpire or technology?’

In another post, Harbhajan explained, ‘It doesn’t matter who won or lost today. I don’t even care who is playing or was playing, but the rules aren’t right. It could happen to us tomorrow, if we lose the final because of the umpires’ mistake?’

Regarding anti-Pakistan posts, the famous Indian player Irfan Pathan also wrote at the end of the match that ‘Two decisions went against Pakistan, a wide ball and an lbw, it seems that South Africa will have a good game in this World Cup. Got some luck too.’

Pakistani singer Ali Zafar also looked quite emotional in his post on X. He wrote that Pakistan had won and he (Tabriz Shamsi) was out. We can debate it and everyone can have their own opinion, but for me Pakistan won.’

Expressing his doubt, he said that a valid question that my friends are asking and which may bother many people for a long time is ‘Why did the review video take longer than usual? Something didn’t seem right. Maybe some technical glitch?’

In the end, he praised the players of the Pakistani team for ‘fighting back’ in this way and said that regardless of this, when the match started, did anyone think that the team would fight like this?

Indian actor Ayushmann Khurrana also posted on X during the match and wrote, ‘Yeh Shamsi out tha yaar.’

After the match, Pakistan Cricket Team Director and Chief Coach Mickey Arthur said that the team could not play the kind of cricket it should have played in the World Cup. Against Afghanistan we were not much better in all three areas, but against South Africa our batting was fine and we were very good at bowling.

According to Mickey Arthur: ‘I’m really proud of these players because they fought until the end.’
