Former India captain Sourav Ganguly shared his views on E India’s ongoing wicketkeeper search ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. In the absence of Rishabh Pant who was injured in a car accident earlier, it is left to the section committee to decide who will be the wicket keeper.
Indian cricket legend Ganguly picked Ishan as the wicketkeeper for India’s much-anticipated tournament.
“Pant is the best wicket-keeper in the country but you can see Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (depending on his fitness) as his replacement. Rohit and Rahul will have these two on their minds. I like Ishan Kishan because he is good at dominating the game for the team. He will definitely be in Dravid’s plans,” Ganguly said at a recent event.
In keeping with his vision for the team, he said that the team should have an equal mix of experienced players and newcomers. Ganguly also opined that Yashaswi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma and Ishan Kishan are smart enough to play fearless cricket.
Ganguly emphasized the wealth of options available to head coach Rahul Dravid and the selectors to choose from, asserting that the focus should be on identifying the best player. “It should be an experienced team — smart guys like Jaiswal, Verma and Ishan Kishan. They can go and play fearless cricket. Dravid and Rohit have a lot of options in front of them. “They need to find and pick the best XI,” Ganguly said.
Kishan has a great track record and has scored 694 runs in 17 ODIs at an average of 46.26. He has scored an impressive double century and six fifties.
