The Holy See has expressed concern over the arrest of former Hong Kong Bishop Cardinal Joseph Sen.

Ninety-year-old Cardinal Sen was arrested on Wednesday, May 11 by National Security Forces police. He is accused of collaborating with foreign powers as the administrator of the Humanitarian Relief Fund. Cardinal Joseph Sen was the Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong from 2000 to 2000. He was released on bail by police around 11pm on Wednesday. The cardinal made no statement when released.

Cardinal Sen was detained by police in Van Chai, where he is being monitored, and taken to a police station for questioning. He is accused of colluding with foreign powers in connection with his role as administrator of the “Humanitarian Relief Fund 612” fund, which helps pro-democracy protesters pay for legal and health care.
Cardinal Sen was one of three trustees associated with the relief fund. Police also arrested 612 other promoters of the charity, including Margaret Ng, a lawyer, former opposition MP Hui Po-kyung and singer Denise Ho, but were later released on bail, Hong Kong reporters said.
