Former international women’s hockey player Benish Hayat is supervising the ongoing National Trey Hockey Championship matches in Lahore.
Benish Hayat says that it is a matter of honor for him that he is the first International Hockey Federation (FIH) certified umpire of Pakistan. In the beginning, coming to this field was a different experience, but as time went by, he I grew interested.
He says that the International Hockey Federation has also said that there should be no gender discrimination, male and female umpires can supervise each other’s matches, which is a very good thing.
He said that in the ongoing event in Lahore, I was supervising the matches of the male players and it all looked very good.
Benish Hayat said that there was never a problem in the matches of the male players, the players do not try to pressure because they know that I have played hockey and I also know the rules.
He further said that pressure is applied when you are not making the right decisions or are not aware of the game. Men’s players give me the status of umpire and they know that if they do something wrong, they will get a card.
Benish Hayat said that in the field, the male players have never said anything, but all the players cooperate with me.
He expressed his desire to supervise international matches and said that now I want to perform the duties of umpiring in men’s matches at the international level.
On the other hand, Secretary of Pakistan Hockey Federation Asif Bajwa praised Benish Hayat’s umpiring and called it welcome.
Asif Bajwa said that FIH has recently decided that there will be no gender discrimination in the game, so it has asked the women’s wing to focus on developing more match officials.
