Former owner of the HEMA Marcel Boekhoorn is taking a step back as the highest boss at his investment company Ramphastos Investments. The current owner of Ouwehands Zoo is now 63 years old. Boekhoorn amassed his fortune, among other things, by patching up and reselling telecom company Telfort.
Boekhoorn gained even more national fame when he took over department store chain HEMA. That was not a resounding success. In 2020, that chain largely came into the hands of Jumbo, also through an investment company.
Ramphastos says that founder Boekhoorn will remain involved in the Dutch investment company as a major shareholder. He is succeeded in the day-to-day management of his investment vehicle by Jan-Willem Neggers, who has been a partner in the company for more than ten years.
“I am sure that Jan-Willem will find the right balance between continuity and sailing its own course,” says Boekhoorn.
Boekhoorn is also affiliated with football club NEC, which he supports financially.
