Former head of Fnac and Canal+, Coralie Piton is propelled to the head of Seuil publishing house

The new 47-year-old manager will be tasked with improving the financial performance of this prestigious subsidiary of the Média-Participations group.

Coralie Piton, a former executive of the Fnac and Canal+, has been appointed head of the Seuil publishing house. This appointment comes after the publishing group Média-Participations announced on Tuesday that it was parting ways with Hugues Jallon. At 47, Piton will be responsible for turning around the financial performance of this prestigious subsidiary of a group that criticized her predecessor, known for his very left-wing political views, for unsatisfactory results.

“We are certain that Coralie Piton will bring her knowledge of the publishing world but also her energy, her vision, and her passion to the service of her teams and authors, to prepare the future of Seuil”, stated Julien Papelier, general director of Média-Participations, in the press release. Coralie Piton “will take up her duties at the beginning of September”, he added.

The new head of Seuil previously led La Chouette Radio, manufacturer of Merlin, an educational connected speaker for children, launched by Radio France and the publisher Bayard Jeunesse. Prior to this, she held various positions within the management of the Canal+ television group and then headed the books division within the Fnac distribution group. “Media-Participations was looking for a manager profile,” a source familiar with the progress of the case told AFP in June.

This source added that Hugues Jallon’s departure was a result of a series of internal problems, including restructuring measures that did not convince the parent company and that negatively affected the work atmosphere. Hugues Jallon, 54, had been in charge of Seuil since 2018. This publishing specialist in humanities had come from a competing house, La Découverte. He is known for his very left-wing opinions, evident in the works he has signed as an author. His most recent work, published in 2023, is a novel ironically titled “Capital is your life” (Vertical editions).

Coralie Piton Takes the Helm at Seuil, Aiming to Turn Around the Publishing House

Coralie Piton, a veteran executive with experience at Fnac and Canal+, has been appointed as the new head of the Seuil publishing house. She will be tasked with steering the prestigious subsidiary of the Média-Participations group back to financial stability, following a period of challenges under the previous leadership of Hugues Jallon. Piton’s appointment signals a new era for Seuil, as the group seeks to revitalize the publishing house and its operations.

A New Era for Seuil: Piton’s Challenge

At 47 years old, Piton brings with her a wealth of experience in the publishing and media industries. Her past roles at Fnac and Canal+ have equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities of the publishing world, particularly in the digital age. Piton’s mandate is clear: to revitalize Seuil’s financial performance and restore its standing as a leading force in the publishing landscape. As head of Seuil, she will be responsible for navigating the challenges of a rapidly evolving publishing market, including the rise of digital formats and the need to adapt to changing reader preferences.

A Shift in Leadership: A New Direction for Seuil

The appointment of Coralie Piton marks a significant change in leadership for Seuil, following the departure of Hugues Jallon, who held the position since 2018. Jallon was known for his strong left-wing views and his commitment to publishing politically charged narratives. His departure was prompted by concerns over Seuil’s financial performance and concerns about the work atmosphere within the publishing house. However, Jallon also had a history of success, having previously led La Découverte, a respected publishing house in the humanities field.

Piton’s Experience and Vision for Seuil

Piton’s professional journey provides valuable insights into her approach to leading Seuil. Before her appointment, she held the position of head of La Chouette Radio, a company responsible for Merlin, an educational connected speaker for children. This role demonstrates her understanding of educational content and her ability to navigate the intersection of technology and content creation.

Seuil’s Future: Growth and Innovation

Média-Participations, the parent company of Seuil, has expressed confidence in Piton’s ability to lead the publishing house into a new era of success. Julien Papelier, the general director of Média-Participations, highlighted Piton’s knowledge of the publishing world, her energy, vision, and passion for the industry. He also emphasized her commitment to serving her teams and authors and preparing Seuil for future challenges.

With Piton at the helm, Seuil stands at a crossroads. The publishing house faces the challenge of navigating a complex and evolving market, but it also has the opportunity to capitalize on its strengths and leverage its legacy to establish itself as a leading force in the world of publishing. Piton’s experience and vision are expected to guide Seuil towards a future characterized by growth, innovation, and a renewed commitment to its literary legacy.
