FORMER Governor of West Java Raden Nana Nuriana breathed her last, Thursday (11/7), at 04.55 WIB in Bandung. Nana died at the age of 86.

“On behalf of the Bandung City Government and personally, I express my condolences for the passing of the former Governor of West Java, R Nana Nuriana. May Allah accept all the deceased’s good deeds,” said Acting Mayor of Bandung, Bambang Tirto Tirtoyuliono, Thursday (11/7).

It should be noted that Nuriana was born in Sumedang on April 17, 1938. She was the Governor of West Java for two terms. Namely the 1993-1998 and 1998-2003 periods.

Before serving as governor, Nuriana served as Commander of Military Region III/Siliwangi from 1991 to 1993. The deceased was a retired soldier with the final rank of Major General TNI.

He graduated from the National Military Academy (AMN) in 1962. Nuriana is also the father of the Secretary of the Bandung City Human Resources Development and Personnel Agency (BKPSDM), Hani Nurrosjani.

During her term as governor, Nana Nuriana was known as a quiet and low profile figure. When President Soeharto prepared the Jonggol area as the location of the new Indonesian capital, she formed a special team and helped with land acquisition to support the idea.

In 1997, Nana asked for support from the West Java DPRD in proposing the southern region or buffer zone of the new Indonesian capital city in Jonggol to be used as the new provincial government center, namely Cikalongkulon, Cianjur and some villages in southern Jonggol.

The reasons for moving the new capital of West Java are quite diverse, starting from the demands of Banten residents who complained regarding the distance of the capital of West Java from their area to the location of the provincial government offices which are separated. However, until the end of his term, the transfer was not implemented.

Post-reformation, Nana became an important figure in the formation of Banten Province, and played a major role in increasing the status of administrative cities in West Java.

Nuriana once received the Bintang Mahaputera Utama award from the government on August 7, 1995.

Before being buried, the deceased was laid out at the funeral home in the Parahyangan House Villa Complex Block A, Number 131 A, Ciwaruga, Parongpong, West Bandung Regency, West Java. (Z-3)
