Wilks died last weekend following a long illness.
Wilks has worked in public and private financial institutions since 1984.
For a long time he was a leading analyst-economist in commercial banks in Latvia. His assessment of economic trends in the country was regularly published in Latvian newspapers.
Later he went into politics. He was elected to the Seimas of the 10th and 11th convocations on the list of the Unity party, from 2010 to 2014 he served as Minister of Finance, and throughout his career he represented Latvia in the most important international financial organizations.
On 1 October 2020, the Saeima appointed Vilks as a member of the board of the Bank of Latvia for a five-year term.
