Former F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg says Scuderia Ferrari, struggling to catch up with Red Bull, has reached the “nothing to lose” territory.
After the first three races of the 2022 season, Scuderia Ferrari not only returned to the top of F1 but also seemed to be ahead of all teams except Red Bull.
But a few months later, Scuderia Ferrari and Charles Leclerc are far behind Red Bull in both championships due to a combination of car breakdowns and bad strategic decisions by the team.
The championship is definitely leaning towards Max Verstappen, who won the last six races, but 2016 F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg claims it has removed some of the pressure from Scuderia Ferrari.
“I have nothing to lose,” Nico Rosberg told Sky Sports’ Any Driven Monday.
“Therefore, we just have to work harder to see what we can maximize. Of course, they need to overcome reliability issues, but the pressure is now a bit subdued.”
“That is, following the first few races, they were candidates for victory, but now they’re far behind. So there’s nothing to lose. There’s only effort. You have to push. What they do Let’s see if we can do it. “
When asked if he wanted to drive a Red Bull or Ferrari car, Nico Rosberg was “definitely a Red Bull,” said a former Mercedes F1 driver.
“It may not be that easy question in practice, but it’s sensuously Red Bull. These days Ferrari is broken, not Red Bull. They solved the situation in a way.”
Nico Rosberg also criticized Carlos Sainz quite a bit and said he wasn’t qualified as a world champion.
“Sainz has the qualities to be a good and decent driver in Ferrari,” said Nico Rosberg.
“But at this point, he doesn’t have the qualities to become a world champion.”
“(Charles) Leclerc has overtaken him in performance in every race of the year.”
“Therefore, he still needs to find considerable progress in order to have an equal relationship with Leclerc, he is still away from it.”
“I was pretty surprised last year, but of course the car is completely different, so it may take longer to get over it.”
