Former Donetsk Militia Leader, Igor Strelkov, Placed in Lefortovo Pre-Trial Detention Center: Updates and Details

Moscow. 23 July. INTERFAX.RU – One of the former leaders of the Donetsk militia, Igor Strelkov (Girkin), who was arrested in the case of incitement to extremism, was placed in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center, said Alexei Melnikov, executive secretary of the capital’s Public Monitoring Commission (POC).

“Yesterday we visited SIZO-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, better known as Lefortovo, and entered Igor Girkin’s cell,” Melnikov told reporters on Sunday.

According to him, Strelkov is in a double cell, he has a TV and a refrigerator, he has already used the library.

The representative of the POC added that Strelkov refused to comment on the conditions of detention in the pre-trial detention center, but “there were no signs of moral or physical pressure.”

The Meshchansky Court of Moscow, at the request of the investigation, sent Girkin (Strelkov) under arrest on Friday.

As reported, Strelkov was detained as part of a criminal case on incitement to extremist activities (part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). From the materials read out in court, it follows that on Friday he was charged.

According to the materials, Strelkov does not admit guilt and does not cooperate with the investigation.
