The former national director of the INDH, Sergio Micco, wrote on his Twitter account a list of what for him are his “first seven truths.” In the thread of the publication, the current counselor of the organization referred to the role of the State in the investigations of human rights violations during the outbreak, to the pressures suffered by the INDH Council, to the attempts to “violate the autonomy” of the institution he directed, among other points. All this a few weeks following resigning as director of the INDH.
The former director of the National Institute of Human Rights (NHRI) and current advisor to the organization, Sergio Micco, used his social networks to refer to the different situations he experienced as a representative of the organization. All this in the framework of cases of human rights violations that occurred during the social outbreak.
“Having regained my freedom of expression, I will proceed to use it with all the force I have, following Lessing’s dictate: “Let each one affirm his truth, and the truth be reserved for God”, thus starts the publication of the former director of the INDH.
Micco listed his “truths” one by one. “As of October 18, 2019, the most serious human rights violations were committed since the return to democracy. This was unanimously affirmed by the INDH council, ”he specified in his account. Twitter.
Subsequently, the counselor pointed out that “The State of Chile is not complying, to this day, with their duties to give themselves the means to investigate, prosecute and punish human rights violations. For this reason, the Directorate of the INDH has said that we are closer to impunity than to truth and justice.”
“Until today no one has proven that in Chile the State organized and executed a massive attack on the civilian population, agreeing to impunity. There is no international human rights report that says otherwise, nor does the INDH,” Micco said.
Sergio Micco: “I refused to sell my conscience”
The former director of the INDH explained that “On November 3, 2019, I was forced to say that I did not believe that there were systematic violationsbecause I was falsely attributed to have said the opposite and such a lie was spread in Chile and Europe”.
He also said that “the INDH Council was pressured through 60-day strikes and a 180-day seizure to declare that there were political prisoners (prisoners of conscience) in Chile. I refused to sell my conscience and destroy the autonomy of the institute and said that in Chile there were none”.
Meanwhile, on the question of who tried to violate the autonomy of the INDH, Micco He replied that “simply search on social networks which political parties and social organizations supported the takeover of the INDH by an organization of former high school students.”
“That these pressures, which included funas and death threats, were denounced and condemned by the directors of the Ombudsman organizations around the world,” added the current counselor.
Finally, Micco wrote: “These are my first seven truths, which I affirm humbly and with all the strength I have. It’s time to rest for today.”
