Former Chihuahua Governor Javier Corral Jurado declared a fugitive from justice

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Chihuahua.- The anti-corruption prosecutor of ChihuahuaLuis Abelardo Valenzuela Holguín, said that because the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office has not submitted in writing the reason why he did not decide to participate in the operation to arrest Javier Corral Jury and by not delivering them, they consider it as fugitive from justice.

During an interview, the prosecutor explained that last night, when the capital authorities refused to cooperate in the arrest of the former governor, the agents of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Chihuahua requested that the reasons for the lack of cooperation be provided in writing, however, as of this morning the Prosecutor’s Office of Mexico City had not provided them, nor to the accused.

“What we are asking is that they give us the reasons in writing for why they do not want to cooperate with us. We went to the Prosecutor’s Office in Mexico City and they still haven’t given us the reason why they did not cooperate with us and they haven’t given us the accused either, which is why we declared him a fugitive from justice,” said Valenzuela.

In an interview, the Anti-Corruption prosecutor said that it was something unprecedented in the administration of justice, since they were executing an arrest warrant issued by a control judge, after a complaint filed by the Superior Audit of the State of Chihuahua that reviewed the public accounts of the fiscal year 2020-2021 and that turned the complaint over to
the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Chihuahua.

“We proceeded to investigate and once we found the technical, legal and testimonial elements we proceeded to judicialize them and that is where a judge issues us an arrest warrant and we go to Mexico City to carry out this order,” explained the prosecutor.

He said that they are also analyzing the legal mechanism to proceed against the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office for not cooperating in an arrest warrant against Corral, who is accused of corruption crimes.

He commented that, although he had already collaborated with the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office in other arrests, on this occasion the prosecutor arrived unexpectedly. Ulysses Lara in something that he considered unprecedented and unusual, preventing the order from being executed and allowing the objective that he claims was given by a local judge to not be achieved.

He also said he had no opinion on the accusations and complaints that Javier Corral claimed to have filed against him and the governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos.
