The former general director of Charleroi airport Jean-Jacques Cloquet joins Les Engagés, write the group’s newspapers IPM and Le Soir on Tuesday. He will be head of the list in 2024 in the Walloon regional elections in the district of Charleroi-Thuin, they add.
The man is well known to Carolos and residents of the Center: he played as a professional player in the RAAL teams and at Sporting de Charleroi. The former footballer, also an engineer by training, then worked in the private sector. He was named “manager of the year” in 2018. After leaving the airport, he briefly worked at Pairi Daiza before becoming an advisor in the cabinet of Jean-Luc Crucke, former Walloon MR minister, who moved to Les Engagés .
“The Engagés have clearly changed. I feel a desire to change the system to evolve with the transition of society, to unite, bring together, work as a team around priority societal themes for the well-being of citizens and to act for the common good.“, declared Mr. Cloquet, in a press release. “Today, I define myself as a social liberal, centrist, humanist and progressive who wants to do politics differently.”
The candidate announces his intention to work on three files:
“putting as many people as possible back to work in Wallonia“via in particular the revaluation of low and medium salaries without fiscally penalizing the employer, training and the revitalization of social dialogue, supporting SMEs, the self-employed and entrepreneurs in particular by promoting”initiatives aimed at local production“, “redevelop a local dynamic so that decisions are taken in consultation with all stakeholders concerned“.
The Walloon deputy Julien Matagne, who was on the regional list of the cdH in 2019, will be the first federal deputy in the election of June 9, 2024.
From this month of October, Jean-Jacques Cloquet, Jean-Luc Crucke, Julien Matagne and their teams will meet the representatives of the Engagés and citizens in their region, during field meetings, the party further specified.
