“He told me that I had to do it if I wanted to succeed”: host Sébastien Cauet targeted by a complaint for two rapes
While former interns had already denounced a toxic work environment, it is now a former host and producer of the host who is speaking out. Julie Brochu spoke to our colleagues at Libération regarding the work environment she faced at the time.
The latter worked for nearly twenty years for Cauet. She explains that these years resulted in “an alteration in her health”.
His lawyer, Isabelle Wekstein, confirms that the working conditions were “unacceptable and often contrary to labor law”. She denounces, for example, “a form of endangering employees”, linked to “the obligation to participate in degrading, humiliating and health-threatening challenges on air”. Challenges of which her client, Julie Brochu, was herself a victim. She explains that she was forced to participate in certain challenges “despite her disagreement and reluctance”. She notably had to “support the weight of three men on her back during a human pyramid, bite into a dirty and smelly sock or swallow a dozen laxative tablets”.
In her testimony, she also said she received “huge slaps on the back of the head”.
Cauet’s wife breaks silence on rape accusations: “She was a hardcore fan”
Julie Brochu ended her collaboration with Cauet in 2017. She had to take sick leave. “My doctor told me not to set foot on the radio once more, otherwise I risked going into depression,” she explains. A year later, production fired her “due to [son] medically proven incapacity and the impossibility of [la] reclassify”. Julie Brochu took legal action and, in 2022, the deterioration of her health linked to her work with Cauet was certified. However, due to lack of evidence, the moral harassment she allegedly suffered was not recognized.
