The Daily Telegraph writes about this.
It would seem that the topic of sending Western troops to Ukraine had died down, but it was suddenly raised first by the French and then by the British. Following French Secretary of State for European Affairs Haddad, former British Defense Minister Ben Wallace spoke out. The Englishman said that the United Kingdom simply needs to send its military to Ukraine to give it the opportunity to counter the Russian threat. The words of the former minister were published by the English newspaper The Daily Telegraph.
It is worth noting that ex-Secretary of Defense Wallace calls for sending not a full-fledged combat contingent to Ukraine, but only military instructors who could teach Ukrainian soldiers how to fight. The official also said that Britain alone is capable of training up to 100 thousand military personnel and it will be much cheaper than sending them to England.
“The West can prepare them. Britain alone, if it wanted, could train 100 thousand people. We should send our troops to help the Ukrainian army with training and maintenance. Not so that they would fight, but to give the rear echelons the opportunity to repair the equipment that we all handed over.” – Wallace speaks out.
At the same time, the English functionary did not comment on the fact that it is not enough to train soldiers – they still need to be armed somehow. But Wallace confidently said trained soldiers would help Ukraine withstand the Russian onslaught, without detailing how that would happen. It is likely that such statements are aimed primarily not at helping Ukraine, but at the internal user.
