Former Bangladesh President Shahabuddin Ahmed passes away Shahabuddin Ahmed, former Bangladesh president and chief justice, dies at 92

Dhaka: Former Bangladesh President and Chief Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed has died at the age of 92. He was suffering from congenital diseases of old age. He died at a military hospital in Dhaka.

Shahabuddin became interim president in 1990 when former military dictator Hussein Mohammad Irshad was ousted in a popular uprising. He served as Chief Justice in 1991 following nine months as President. When the Awami League came to power in 1996, Shahabuddin was re-elected president.
