Events.- This Sunday, January 21, the former Anglican bishop, Alexander Barroso, who led the Bethábara church for more than 8 years, located in the Tierra Negra sector of the Cabimas municipality, died in a prison in Barquisimeto, Lara state.

Alexander Barroso was sentenced on August 17, 2021 to 12 years in prison for the crime of sexual abuse once morest 12 girls and four women in Cabimas, following almost four years in detention, the Court handed down the sentence. After the sentence, he was transferred to the Uribana prison to pay his sentence.

The facts

The former bishop was denounced for the crime of abuse once morest minors and apparently had been committing this type of act for more than six years. It was one of the victims who reported him and following effective investigations by the Cicpc, they proceeded to arrest him on November 3, 2018 in his house, located in the Delicias Nuevas sector, following an order issued by the Third Court of Cabimas.

The case of Barroso, who was removed from his position as bishop, caused great impact at the national and international level.

The defense lawyer requested humanitarian measures to be assigned a house in prison due to his health problems, but was denied.
