Climate City Councilor Czernohorszky: “Thanks to the help of the population, Vienna’s forest areas are growing by up to 20,000 square meters every year!”
Vienna (OTS) – Today, Saturday, it was that time once more: During the “Forest of Young Viennese” reforestation campaign, families were able to plant around 10,000 trees and bushes together with the foresters of the City of Vienna.
This time the plants were diligently planted in the 22nd district. Almost 10,000 trees and bushes were planted by visitors with the support of the foresters of the City of Vienna. In addition, there were numerous play, craft and nature stations with lots of information regarding the forest natural area.
Since 1985, over 350,000 new trees and bushes have been planted
Since the reforestation campaign began in 1985, 105 hectares of forest have been recreated thanks to the numerous helping hands, large and small. Families with children, but also all other interested and committed Viennese, planted 10,000 to 15,000 trees and bushes every year.
“Thanks to the help of the population, Vienna’s forest areas are growing by up to 20,000 square meters every year – and with them the quality of life in our city is growing,” says climate councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky. “The forests ensure a healthy urban climate, are places of relaxation and new habitat for many local wild animals.”
