Santa Cruz de Tenerife – The forest fire on the Canary Island of Tenerife, which is popular with holidaymakers, is still out of control following five days. The flames have so far covered around 11,600 hectares of nature, as announced by the Canary Emergency Service late Sunday followingnoon. That corresponds to the area of a good 16,000 football pitches. Canary Islands Prime Minister Fernando Clavijo had previously said on Sunday that the southern front of the fire was now “very stable”. The northern fire area is worrying.
