- Fire in California has doubled in size.
As the California Fire Department announced on Thursday, the “Fairview” fire now extends over 7,700 hectares – twice as much as on Wednesday. The fire brigade warned of further spread, especially to the east.
The fire broke out on Monday near the town of Hemet, southeast of Los Angeles, and has already killed two people. Thousands of people had to leave their homes.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. Parts of the states of California, Nevada and Arizona have been suffering from a heatwave with temperatures of up to 43 degrees for more than a week.
