Forest fire in Saxon Switzerland: Fire roller from the Czech Republic is here Regional

Bad Schandau/Sebnitz – The firestorm from the Czech Republic has reached Saxony! The forest fire that broke out in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park has arrived on the German side.

The embers at the bastion were only deleted a few days ago. Now the next major operation is already waiting for the firefighters from the region.

“Coming from the area of the Prebischtor on the Czech side, the fire found its way with a high fire spread speed to the German side in the area of the Saxon Switzerland National Park.”

The district office responsible for the two communities triggered the disaster warning. “There are currently three larger deployment sites: at the Großer Winterberg restaurant, at the Kipphorn and at the Kleiner Winterberg,” said a spokesman.

The strong wind fanned the fire once more and once more, allowing the flames to spread quickly. According to the German Weather Service, the night does not bring any relaxation either. There will be thunderstorms, but the urgently needed amounts of rain will probably not materialise. Worse: Wind peaks of up to 36 km/h are expected.

Fortunately, the forest fire is not yet near a residential area. Hikers or visitors to the forest have not stayed in the dangerous area either. There was no evacuation.

The situation remains dramatic, the fire is still not under control. Fighting the flames will likely continue throughout the night…
