The death of Ivana Trump, the first wife of former US President Donald Trump, was caused by an accidental “severe blow” to her torso, the chief forensic investigator in New York announced on Friday.
The statement did not specify the circumstances of the accident, but US media said that the police were investigating whether the death was caused by the 73-year-old woman falling from the stairs of her Manhattan home.
A New York Police Department spokesman told AFP in an emailed statement Thursday that police responded to a call from Ivana Trump’s Upper East Side address and found her in a “faint and unresponsive state” to attempts to rescue her.
She was declared dead on the spot. The statement added that “there does not appear to be any indication of a criminal act.”
Donald Trump announced her death on Thursday and said she was “a wonderful, beautiful and amazing woman who lived a wonderful and inspiring life.”
“Her pride and happiness was her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric. She was so proud of them as we were all of her. Rest in peace Ivana.”
Model Ivana Trump, who grew up under communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia, married then-real estate developer Donald Trump in 1977, and they had their first child, Donald Jr., later that year.
She had Ivanka in 1981 and Eric in 1984.
During the 1980s, the Trumps were among the most famous in New York.
With Donald Trump’s business booming, the couple’s power and fame grew, and Ivana assumed key roles in his real estate empire.
The great distance between them, rumored to be the result of Donald’s relationship with actress Marla Maples, led to the provision of exciting content for New York newspapers.
The divorce occurred between Donald Trump and Ivana in the early 1990s, and in 1993 the future president married Maples.
Ivana Trump has achieved success in her own business in the fields of fashion, jewelry and beauty products and has written a number of books.
