The Chancellery Argentina rejected the deployment of official activities of the princess anneof the British Royal House, in the Falkland Islands“because it has been carried out in the exercise of the illegal British occupation of the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime spaces.”

“The Argentine government once once more calls on the United Kingdom to resume the sovereignty negotiations in compliance with resolution 2065 and other resolutions of the General Assembly and its Special Committee on Decolonization. It is time for the United Kingdom to comply with the mandate of the international community and put an end to the anachronistic colonial situation in those archipelagos, which are an integral part of the Argentine Republic”, concluded the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an official statement that released this followingnoon.

Princess Anne had landed on the South Atlantic Islands last Friday, when she laid a wreath at the “Liberation Monument”, which is what the United Kingdom calls the war that took place in 1982.

In return, just over two weeks ago, Argentina commemorated the 40th anniversary of United Nations (UN) Resolution 37/9, which urged Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume diplomatic negotiations for the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. The Foreign Ministry held a special event on Friday, November 4, in which it reiterated its claim to the British government to comply with this measure of the international organization. The act took place in the Libertador Room of the San Martín Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was led by the head of the portfolio, santiago cafierowho was accompanied by several officials.

The meeting was attended by, for example, the Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic, Guillermo Carmonathe members of the Malvinas National Council and the diplomats who participated in the management and adoption of the resolution in 1982.

In that year, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA) issued the document referring to the issue of the islands, in which, following the war, it called on both parties to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the dispute over the sovereignty of that territory.

Together with Resolution 2065, signed in 1965, it represents a milestone in Argentina’s foreign policy with respect to the Malvinas, since it was the first to be adopted following the end of the war in the South Atlantic and clearly establishes that said confrontation The armed forces did not change the nature of the claims between the two countries over the ownership of the Malvinas, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime spaces.

For the Foreign Ministry, this initiative promoted by the UN, which continues to be unfulfilled, is the only way to put an end to this special and particular case of decolonization. In fact, the same text of the international organization states that “the maintenance of colonial situations is incompatible with the ideal of universal peace of the United Nations.”

In point one of that document, the UN asks the governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to “resume negotiations in order to find a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute over these islands.” .

Carmona himself questioned, in a message he recently posted on his Twitter account, the lack of predisposition of the British authorities to resume talks on this issue: “The United Kingdom has expressed its intention to comply with its international obligations and negotiate with the Republic of Mauritius the return of Chagos, according to UNGA Resolution 2066. In the same way, they must comply with Resolution 2065 on the Malvinas issue,” he wrote.
