Foreign Minister Urrejola for the kidnapping and torture of a Chilean sailor: “His health situation is delicate” | National

“His health situation is delicate, because the truth is that there was a lot of violence and torture. (…) But the important thing is that he has been released and is alive,” said Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola.

This Monday, following rescue of the Chilean sailor who was kidnapped in Ecuadorthe Minister of Foreign Relations (RR.EE), Antonia Urrejola, referred to the current situation of the affected person and the investigations of the case.

Specifically, the foreign minister stressed the importance of the work between the consulate and the Ecuadorian authorities.

“Yesterday I made contact with the foreign minister of Ecuador, and the Ecuadorian authorities are investigating these events,” Urrejola said.

Let us remember that the Chilean sailor, Luis Toledo, who was kidnapped in the country in the middle of the world, showed signs of torture. Specifically, the kidnappers amputated two fingers of one hand.

In this context, regarding the health situation of Luis Toledo, the chancellor exposed the ill-treatment to which he was subjected. Likewise, the importance of having managed to rescue alive at the end of the Armada.

“For now, the information we have, that we have made public regarding the release of the second corporal of the army, (…) he was subjected to ill-treatment and torture“, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In the same way, he clarified that “his health situation is delicate, because the truth is that there was a lot of violence and torture. That appeared in the press, but the important thing is that he has been released and is alive“.

“You have to be happy regarding that and now We are awaiting investigations by the Ecuadorian authorities“he added.

Consulted regarding the future and the upcoming decisions regarding the sailor, the Secretary of Government stressed that it was not up to her to rule on that.

“We do not know, it is a personal decision for him and his family if he is going to return to Chile or not. It is not for us to pronounce on that“, Urrejola exposed.

It should be noted that Luis Toledo is in a care center receiving care for the injuries suffered.

On the other hand, he added that the work of the Ecuadorian authorities has led to the arrest of two people, directly involved in the kidnapping of the man.

“There are people who are detained and we must wait for the results of these investigations,” the minister concluded.
