Foreign Minister Park Jin said of the government’s Fukushima polluted water inspection group in Japan, “It is not a sidekick.”

Minister Park said, “The inspection team is working hard, and I don’t think it’s right to underestimate them.”

He continued, “I went into the nuclear power plant and looked at the internal facilities and requested all the necessary data.” He emphasized that he would explain the most objective and accurate data and on-site inspection to the public as it is.

Regarding the question of whether the treatment of contaminated water and the import regulation of Fukushima fishery products are separate issues, he replied, “It is an issue directly related to the life and health of the people, so it cannot be imported unless public anxiety and concerns are resolved.”

In response to the point that ‘we should request the International Court of Law of the Sea for provisional measures not to discharge contaminated water until safety is secured’, Minister Park added, “We also need to determine whether we have secured sufficient data and whether there are any practical benefits.”
