Foreign direct investment (FDI) has accounts that demand concern, but registered an increase of more than 236 million dollars compared to the same period last year
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Angola fell by US$267.8 million from the first to the second quarter of 2023, as shown by recent data from the National Bank of Angola (BNA). FDI in Angola stood at 1.9 billion dollars in the second quarter, far from the more than 2.1 billion dollars recorded in the first quarter of the current year.
On the other hand, it can be seen that these 1.9 billion are higher than the little more than 1.8 billion dollars that entered the country in the form of FDI, in the same period of 2022. However, in the second quarter of the year In 2021, FDI in Angola was US$1.6 billion, US$236.6 million below the US$1.9 billion recorded in the same period of the current year.
The balance, which refers to the difference between FDI inflows and outflows in Angola, stood at US$2.1 billion in the second quarter; therefore, above the just over 1.9 billion dollars, which, as seen above, was recorded in the entry of foreign investment into the country.
Thus, the balance in the second quarter of the current year is -242.3 million dollars, which shows that in this period, more money left the country than went into investment. If we go back to 2020, we can see that since then the balance has always been negative.
