Foreign influencer wins contest with selfie with Dr. Simi

MEXICO CITY.- The influencer known as “Paul the German” caused a sensation in social networks by winning a photography contest organized by his university with a selfie next to the famous mascot of Dr. Simi.

The photo that got thousands of likes on Instagram was taken in the Mexico City during the semester he studied at the Tec de Monterrey.

“With my brother Dr. Simi,” was the title of the photograph presented by Paul Sauerborn, known on social networks as ‘Paul the German’, and which at the time of writing this note already had 36,231 ‘likes’ on Instagram.

“Dr. Simi is an importance to Mexico and Latin America that you don’t understand until you dive deep into the culture. That’s exactly what I did during my semester there. This photo captures this incredible moment!” she wrote in the caption.

In a series of videos on Tiktokin which he spoke the entire time in Spanish and using Mexican expressions, explained that the photo was sent as a photography contest in the field of engineering.

“Dr. Simi came to Germany, you bastards. I participated in a photo contest at my university with that selfie of Dr. Simi and together with you we had a fucking mess, dude,” he said on TikTok.

Thanks to the fact that her photo went viral among Mexican Internet users, she reached 31 thousand ‘likes’ by the time the contest closed in mid-June, thus securing her first place.

Second place got 1,550 likes.

“The five photos with the most likes will be exhibited in large format at the ‘Engineer your future day’ fair,” he announced.

“I asked you for help, because the photo with the most likes won the contest, but what the fuck, dude, we really broke it. The truth is that the photos of the other contestants are awesome and of good quality,” he says in one of his three videos.

This is the second time she has submitted her selfie with Dr. Simi to a photography contest, however, on her first attempt she came in last place. This time she had the help of her followers to win.

The European influencer became a sensation among Mexican Internet users, who adopted him as a “Yucatecan pride” because his way of pronouncing words and phrases in Spanish reminded his followers of the characteristic Yucatecan accent.

Internet users pointed out that “the Mayan language is just as fast, sharp and strong as German,” which is why they started joking, claiming that the TikToker is actually from Yucatan.

But the jokes didn’t end there, as in the comments on the photo posted on Instagram – the platform where the contest was held – they also wrote funny anecdotes highlighting the foreign student and his “achievements” during his studies in Mexico.

“Paul saved me and my dog ​​from dying in a fire in a 50-story building. He heroically entered the building and ran up those 50 floors to help me. In the end, he stayed behind to help the firefighters put out the fire. I think about 30 people were saved by this hero,” wrote one follower.

“Paul was born in the middle of the Chiapas jungle, freed his community, and was reborn in Germany to return to Aztec and Mayan greatness. And he takes Dr. Simi around the world remembering his other Mexican life.”
