Victory in Virginia
Playing three matches last week, the Rams played their first midweek conference date in 2023, hosting Rhode Island in a convincing 3-0 sweep, the lone home game for Fordham over a near month-long stretch of games. Going back to work on the road at VCU, the Rams dropped a tough four-set contest on Saturday, before going out 24 hours later and doing the opposite, downing VCU in four, and handing them their first conference loss of the year.
With four players at or near 100 kills for the season, a well-balanced Fordham attack is led this season by Whitley Moody, who at 3.61 kills per set has tallied 213 hammers, leading Audrey Brown as the other player at plus-200 kills, tallying 203 coming into the weekend. Zoe Talabong had an impressive weekend in Richmond, seeing herself join the century club on offense, with Nailah Jenkins, just outside that group with 99. Orchestrating the offense for most of the campaign has been Whitney Woodrow to the tune of 8.68 assists per set with 547 helpers dished out this season, while Mackenzie Colvin has seen time in Rams’ 6-2 lineup, averaging 2.72 assists per set herself.
Averaging just under five digs per set, Libero Mallory Lipski has led the way defensively for the Rams with 313 digs, ahead of an even 200 from Woodrow and 195 from Moody. Talabong has collected 107 total ahead of Ryan Naumann with 91, as she nears triple digit receptions as well. At the net, Tatum Holderied is pacing the Rams with 1.12 blocks per set, with 65.0 total blocks this season, including 10 solo, ahead of 46 total rejections from Jenkins.
SLU Clues
At 9-10 on the year, Saint Louis enters the weekend looking to snap a three-game skid, which includes back-to-back five set defeats at Duquesne a week ago, and sit 2-4 in the A-10 with a pair of victories over George Mason.
Pacing her team with 236 kills on the year, Delaney Rice leads SLU with 236 hammers, with five different players having at least 100 kills for the season, and six averaging more than a kill per set. Averaging 6.71 and 4.56 respectively, setters Kate Aupperle and Addie Lyon have led the setting duties this season, with Aupperle leading with 410 this season.
