Ford suspends production at Michigan plant due to lack of chips

We have already mentioned several times here that the shortage of chips does not only affect the world of computers and smartphones. Nowadays, with technology spanning multiple industries, this lack of equipment impacts multiple areas, such as the automotive industry.

In this regard, Ford has now announced that it will suspend production at its Michigan plant, where the Mustang is produced, due to the global shortage of semiconductors.

Ford halts production in Michigan due to chip shortage

Ford Motor Co announced on Thursday (31) that it will suspend production at its assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, starting next week. The reason for this decision of the American automaker is related to the shortage of chips.

We remind you that this shortage was triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced many factories and companies to close their doors or limit production due to emergency measures, isolation and the number of infections, leading to staff shortages. And this problem does not only affect the North American brand, having an impact on several manufacturers in the automotive sector, as well as on other segments.

The Michigan plant is where Ford produces its popular and coveted Mustang model. But for next week, this assembly will then be suspended.

However, according to Archyde.com, Ford had already warned last month that the lack of chips would favor a drop in the volume of cars obtained for the current quarter. And in addition to Michigan, the company also suspended production at its Kansas City assembly plant, where the F-150 pickups are made, for a week last February.

On the other hand, the automaker said that its other North American plants will, for now, remain in full and normal operation.
