Ford Ranger XLT: The Tame Raptor

After the Ranger Raptor, the Ranger Limited and the Ranger Wildtrak, Ford has now published the sales price for the new generation of the Ranger XLT: The XLT can now be ordered at the attractive price of 45,922 euros and will be on the market in spring 2023. With the XLT, the customer receives a completely newly developed pick-up with a four-door double cab and five full-size seats that is powerful, versatile and smart to use. The Ford Ranger has been the best-selling pick-up series in Europe and Germany for many years.

The Ranger XLT is powered by a 2.0 liter Ecoblue four-cylinder diesel with single turbocharging. This engine has an output of 125 kW / 170 hp and works either with a manual six-speed gearbox or with a six-speed automatic. The automatic version costs net from 47,826 euros. Power is distributed by an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system that can switch from rear to 4×4 drive while driving. Like the Ranger variants Limited and Wildtrak, the new Ranger XLT can also tow trailers weighing up to 3.5 tons.

Ford has given the Ranger XLT extensive standard equipment. These include manual air conditioning, electric windows at the front and the Park Pilot system at the rear, as well as the reversing camera with Split View technology. The electrically adjustable exterior mirrors with integrated direction indicators can be heated. The range of assistance systems includes a cruise control system with speed limiter, Pre-Collision Assist including distance display and distance warning, a collision warning system with active emergency brake assistant, Lane Assistant including lane keeping assistant, traffic sign recognition system, windscreen wipers with rain sensor, Headlight Assist with day/night sensor and High Beam Assist as well as Active Parking Assist with a parking and exiting function.

In the interior, the Ford Sync 4A communication and entertainment system with Applink, a ten-inch touchscreen and six speakers provides entertainment. Sync 4A has Bluetooth handsfree and also voice control. Software updates can be installed wirelessly “Over The Air” (OTA). The new Ranger XLT also establishes contact with the online world via Ford-Pass Connect3, for example via the integrated WLAN hotspot.

The powerful appearance is underlined by 16-inch light-alloy wheels as well as the black grille inserts on the fenders, the plastic side skirt protection and the LED taillights. The electric lock of the Easy Lift tailgate does not require a locking cylinder, internal and external lashing eyes make it easier to secure loads on the platform. A 400 watt voltage converter provides the power supply on the go.

The chassis of the Ranger manages an even greater balancing act between a comfortable driving experience for road use and off-road properties. One of the basics for this is provided by the six selectable driving programs of the so-called Drive Mode system. Depending on whether the new Ranger is on the road or off the beaten track, the driving program adapts the various parameters – from power distribution to engine response and the shift characteristics of the automatic transmission to the electronic safety and stability program or traction control . In off-road use, the interaction between drive technology, chassis and body dimensions ensures that the new Ranger can also master extreme embankment and ramp angles.

With the XLT, there are now four variants to choose from on the German market, with more to follow in the coming year. The top version of the Raptor developed by Ford Performance has been available to order since the summer, and the first units of this ultimate, 215 kW / 292 hp off-road athlete will be rolling out to customers this year. With the Ranger Limited and Wildtrak, which have been available to order since the beginning of September 2022, the first two “tamer” variants will follow. While the Limited shares the range of engines with the new Ranger XLT, Ford also offers the Wildtrak with a 151 kW / 205 hp bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel and a 3.0-liter six-cylinder bi-turbo diesel , which delivers 177 kW / 240 hp and develops a maximum torque of 600 Newton meters. These two diesels bring their power to the wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission and an electronically controlled, permanent e-4WD all-wheel drive. (awm)
