Ford Plant Strike in Kentucky Could Significantly Impact Canadian Market: Expert Analysis

The strike that has shaken the American auto industry since mid-September gained momentum this week, as 8,700 employees at a Ford plant in Kentucky stopped working.

And according to Auto Guide columnist Antoine Joubert, this walkout at Ford’s largest plant will have a “significant impact” on the Canadian market.

“We manufacture F-series trucks there, including almost all of the Super Duty models, which are extremely popular and coveted here,” he explained in an interview with LCN.

However, since the Americans are also snapping up these trucks, a drop in production caused by the strike will logically lead to a significant reduction in the distribution of these vehicles in Canada, maintains Mr. Joubert.

“The manufacturer Ford does not want to lose too much money by selling vehicles in Canada, but considering the exchange rate which is around 35%, it is less profitable for Ford to sell these vehicles in Canada than ‘in the United States,” he says.

“If there is a strike for a fairly long period, that means that we will no longer produce these trucks and the first coupe will be the Canadian market,” adds the columnist. We may have to wait a very long time to get our hands on these trucks, which will probably cost even more.”
