The American automaker Ford Motor Company has entered into an agreement with Nemaska Lithium and will source lithium products from its plant in Bécancour, in the Centre-du-Québec region, for the production of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs).

The agreement was signed for 11 years, Nemaska Lithium reported on Monday in a press release, and notably provides for the delivery of a maximum of 13,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per year.
This project will be the first to produce lithium hydroxide in Quebec.
“The Nemaska Lithium project will be a sustainable source of lithium, supporting Ford’s ability to scale and helping us make EVs more accessible and affordable over time for millions of customers,” said Lisa Drake, vice president. president of the industrialization of Ford’s EVs, Model e.
The lithium hydroxide that will be produced by the Quebec company and supplied to the car manufacturer will meet high standards in terms of quality and sustainable development, thanks in particular to one of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry, can we read in the press release.
