Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Pickup Delivered to First Customer

The first owner of the Ford F-150 Lightning electric car was a resident of a rural area from the US state of Michigan. Nicholas Schmidt, CTO of a start-up specializing in grid optimization, picked up his silver pickup truck from a dealer in the Michigan town of Standish.

Schmidt’s garage, as it turned out, already has a Tesla Model 3 electric car, in addition, he reserved a Cybertruck and was considering buying a Rivian R1T. Despite the fact that Rivian was the first to bring its electric pickup to the market, it is Ford who has a chance to turn the tide and encourage Americans to massively switch to electric vehicles: pickups are really very popular in the country, and the gasoline F-150 has become the most popular model in the US over the past 40 years.

The car really doesn’t have many competitors: the launch of production announced back in 2019 Tesla Cybertruck postponed several times, and latest information it won’t start until next year. Pickup Hummer EV began shipping last December, but it is noticeably more expensive than the F-150 Lightning and cannot be considered an offering in the same category. Comparable product promises to be Chevrolet Silverado EV, but its deliveries will start only next year. And Stellantis still hasn’t specified when the electric Ram 1500 should be expected.

However, Ford still has to resolve a number of issues. Initially, the company planned to produce 40 thousand F-150 Lightnings annually, then the decision was made double this figure, and then the auto giant stopped at around 150 thousand. machines per year, and it should reach such productivity by the middle of next year. The issue is acute: the company stopped taking orders following receiving 200 thousand applications, and someday they will have to be accepted once more.
