In addition to relaxation and sports, Forchtenstein has a number of cultural sights to offer that are wonderful for hiking. Well signposted Nordic walking routes and mountain bike routes await all those who enjoy exercise. Numerous festivals and club activities round off the events. For the physical well-being is well taken care of in Forchtenstein: excellent gastronomy provides the best culinary for the physical well-being of the guest. Below is an excerpt of sights, excursion destinations or leisure tips for a visit to the castle community:

The bathing reservoir

Excellent water quality, a sunny location and lots of nature are the most well-known features of the “Forchtenstein bathing reservoir” in the middle of “paradise”. 15,000 square meters of water invite you to cool off and relax. A diving tower and a 50 m long water slide delight young and old. Due to its location on the edge of the forest, there is sufficient natural shade. A children’s playground, a table tennis table and 2 beach volleyball courts complete the offer.

Baroque parish church “Maria Himmelfahrt” with Holy Staircase

The parish church was consecrated in 1347. A statue of Mary from the mid-15th century adorns the baroque high altar. The Holy Staircase, a replica of the Scala Santa in Rome, invites you to pray. A way of the cross leads from the parish church to the local mountain, which ends at the three crosses. Since 2019, the glockenspiel has graced the square in front of the parish church.

Burg Forchtenstein

The mighty bulwark Forchtenstein Castle rises on a foothill of the Rosaliengebirge. The castle was never captured even during the Turkish wars. For this reason, it served as a safe for the Esterházy princes, in which everything precious and valuable was kept. The treasures that the family has collected over the centuries can still be viewed at the castle from April to October.

The Rosalia chapel

The Rosalien chapel stands on one of the most beautiful points in the country and on the highest elevation of the Rosaliengebirge, the Heuberg (746 m). It was built in 1666 and is a popular destination for pilgrims.

ORF summer festival

For the first time this year, on July 28th, the ORF summer festival will be held at the bathing reservoir. The star guest is Udo Wenders, who guarantees good entertainment alongside the Radio Burgenland Band and later DJ Claudia Schmid. Forchtenstein’s clubs take care of your physical well-being.

Day of the Forchtensteiner

As in previous years, a highlight of the summer is the day of the Forchtensteiner on August 15th in Forchtenstein Castle. The festival traditionally opens with a field mass, following which the Forchtenstein music club provides musical entertainment and the sports club provides refreshments. As in the previous year, the castellan Dr. Zechmeister invites all Forchtenstein residents to free tours, including the new exhibition!

Rosaliakirtag

A fixed point in the municipality’s calendar of events is the annual Rosaliakirtag, which is organized by the beautification association. This year it takes place on September 10th and begins, as usual, with Holy Mass. Afterwards you can end the day with food and drink, good pastries and musical entertainment.
